Joy Greisen Jewish Education Center

Where Childhood is Tended with Care

At the Joy Greisen Jewish Education Center (JEC), we believe childhood is not a waiting room for the future. It is a sacred, living season of its own. Here, children are greeted by name. They are met at eye level. They are given time — time to wonder, to build, to sing, to try again.

Rooted in Jewish wisdom and guided by research-informed early childhood practice, we honor each child as B’tzelem Elohim — created with infinite worth.

We believe the breath of children sustains the world, and so we protect that breath with steadiness, patience, and joy. In our classrooms, curiosity is not hurried, feelings are not brushed aside, and play is where growth quietly takes root.

Explore Our Programs

From first smiles in infancy to confident strides toward kindergarten — and beyond into school-age camps — our programs support children ages 3 months through elementary years.

Pre-School Programs

What began in the 1980s as a synagogue preschool has grown into a vibrant early childhood center serving families across Anchorage. We welcome families of all backgrounds into a community shaped by kindness, respect, and shared celebration.

Infant & Toddler Care

You will find classrooms filled with block towers and watercolor light, Hebrew songs, and snow boots lined neatly by the door. You will find educators who understand that learning happens in conversation, in shared laughter, in the quiet reassurance of a trusted adult nearby.

Before & After-School Care

At JEC, learning and community continue well beyond the preschool years. Our school-age program serves children in Kindergarten through age 12, offering structured, engaging care throughout the school year and an immersive summer experience.

More About Us

There is an old teaching that asks: why teach a desert people to swim? Because you prepare children not only for the world they know, but for the one they will encounter.

Our Staff

JEC teachers bring their individual gifts into the classroom. You will find educators who sing and play instruments, lead forest trail walks and garden activities, bake challah, design art experiences, and guide science experiments. Their talents strengthen the whole community.

Mission & Curriculum

Our mission is to provide an early childhood center that is positive, diverse, and deeply rooted in belonging. We blend Judaic wisdom and secular learning in ways that feel natural and joyful. We do not shape children to fit a program.
We shape our program to honor the child.

Family Partnerships

Children grow strongest when the adults around them are connected. At JEC, families are not visitors — they are part of the fabric of the school. We welcome conversation at the doorway, participation in celebration, and partnership in supporting each child’s unfolding development.

What Parents Say

“Working alongside JEC means surrounding families with a circle of support. Together, we make sure parents know they’re not alone and that the right resources are always within reach.”
